Electricity Certificates on NASDAQ OMX Commodities

ABN AMRO Clearing expanded their clearing portfolio with electricity certificates which are listed on NASDAQ OMX Commodities per 1 November 2016. For more information, please visit the exchange website.

The electricity certificate system (EL Certs) is a market-based support system for cost-effective expansion of electricity production from renewable sources. The certificate system, which will run until the end of 2035, is intended to help Sweden to achieve a more ecologically sustainable energy system and also to meet the EU target for the country’s proportion of renewable energy production. Each electricity certificate certifies that one MWh of electricity has been produced from renewable energy sources.

Trading and clearing in electricity certificates occurs on NASDAQ OMX Commodities. Certificates are traded not only by electricity companies that have their own trading departments, but also by industrial companies and district heating utilities, as well as by smaller electricity network companies, producers and trading companies.
